This Wading River artist has her BFA from Pratt Institute and was high school art teacher for over 30 years. She currently teaches digital photography at Suffolk Community College. February 5 - May 5The East End Arts Council presents two iconic local painters whose images capture the essence of the North Fork – Alan Bull and Carol C. Young, in a show open to the public starting February 5 and continuing to May 5, 2010 at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery. An opening reception will be held Sunday, February 21 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Local wines and cheeses will be served by the Jamesport Manor Inn, and the public is warmly welcomed to this free event. Artist Alan Bull, who is also a musician, will treat guests to a performance of several original acoustic guitar pieces at the reception. Naturalist Roy Latham in 1944, recorded in a flock of 400 at Orient Point but numbers declined until the 1970’s. Bluebirds, our State Bird, need nest boxes, as they cannot excavate their own cavities and depend on natural or man-made cavities for their survival. Bill Zitek DVM, Long Island Area Coordinator for the New York State Bluebird Society, will discuss its natural history and how its numbers are increasing on Eastern Long Island. Habitat, nest box types and monitoring will be discussed along with advice on how you can set up nest boxes on your property.
