LI Agricultural Forum scheduled for January 16-17, 2014

The Long Island Agricultural Forum (Ag Forum) returns for its 33rd year to Suffolk County Community College's Eastern Campus in Riverhead on Thursday and Friday, January 16th and 17th.  

This two-day conference will include topics focusing on the interests of Long Island's agricultural and horticultural industries. All growers and dealers in these industries are encouraged to attend.  The Forum provides the opportunity to keep up-to-date on the latest issues and technology, as well as to accrue important pesticide recertification credits. Registration is $30/person; after January 10, 2014, the registration fee will be $45/person. **SPECIAL OFFER** If more than one person from a farming operation attends, the first person will be charged $30, and each additional person will be charged $20. This offer expires January 10.

Topics in the General Session are: A Weather Station Network to Enhance Crop Production and Pest Management; the Affordable Care Act - What It Means To Your Business; LI Pesticide Strategy and WPS Initiatives; Compliance and Labor Law Updates from NYS Dept. of Labor; and 2013 Survey Results - the State of Suffolk County Agriculture.

In addition, the 2 day conference will feature small group sessions specific to issues related to potato/vegetable production, viticulture, greenhouse and nursery production, sustainable agriculture, tree fruit production, livestock and poultry harvesting and marketing and environmental  landscaping and gardening.  Friday afternoon will feature a special session on Plant Biotechnology. Special lunch sessions will focus on NYS Dept of Labor Updates and Loan Opportunities: the Farm Service Agency.
